Former NC State football defensive tackle Justin Jones was taken with the 84th overall pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round of the NFL draft Friday night. Jones is the third NC State player to be drafted so far, joining fellow defensive lineman Bradley Chubb (first round, pick five, Denver Broncos) and B.J. Hill (third round, pick 69, New York Giants).
In three years as a starter, Jones amassed 108 tackles (34 as a senior) and 8.5 sacks (3.5 as a senior), along with two fumble recoveries.
Jones will join former NC State quarterback Philip Rivers with the Chargers.
