The Wake County Board of Elections approved a general election early-voting site on NC State’s campus at a public meeting Thursday night.  The site will be in the Creative Services Center at 1220 Varsity Drive.

NC State last had an on-campus polling place in 2012 at Talley Student Union, which hosted over 16,000 voters. This year the board opted for the Creative Services Center, citing Talley’s logistical concerns of parking for non-student voters and transportation difficulty for voting site staffers.

The board approved a total of 19 early-voting locations, plus the Board of Elections Office, which is legally required to be an early-voting site.  

At the meeting, several members of the community advocated for NC State to have an on-campus polling location. Among them was Kim Hoang, a UNC-Chapel Hill student studying maternal and child health, who brought a petition with 1,665 signatures.

The petition supports on-campus voting sites for large 2-year and 4-year colleges in North Carolina.

Early voting runs from Thursday, Oct. 27 to Saturday, Nov. 5. Available times for voting are listed below. More complete coverage of this meeting, as well as what these voting sites mean for NC State and Wake County, will be published in the coming week.
