After recent quad-meet wins, No. 21 NC State gymnastics tumbled to second place among a couple of top-25 teams at the Ohio State Quad.
Scoring 196.625 to top No. 16 Penn State and Eastern Michigan, the Wolfpack fell short of No. 20 Ohio State, who hosted the event and scored 197.150. NC State won the vaults and bars behind efforts from sophomore Syniya Thomas and junior Katie Harper, respectively.
Harper placed first in a five-way tie on bars with a 9.900 score. That was her 11th 9.900 or higher score with the Wolfpack, second most in program history. Sophomore Ava Myers tied her career-high score of 9.850 before freshman Emerson Fisk set a career high of 9.825. Sophomore Caroline Volk and junior Elle Hadrick kept the Wolfpack rolling with 9.850s before Harper anchored the win.
On beam, freshman Adasyn Tackett led NC State with a 9.850, but the Pack couldn’t keep up with the home team’s 49.300 score. NC State rebounded with a 49.250 on the floor, led by 9.875s from Hadrick, Thomas and freshman Autumn Rardin. Senior Meg Adler added a 9.850.
Closing the day on vault, the Wolfpack earned the highest score on the event with a 49.175. Junior Lauren Wright led the lineup with 9.875 and junior Maddie Hall added a 9.800. Fisk had another career-best with 9.850, and Thomas took the event title with a 9.900 in the anchor spot to tie her personal best.
Next up for NC State is a home meet against West Virginia when it takes the Reynolds Coliseum floor for Senior Night on Friday, March 13.
