No. 21 ranked N.C. State finished runner-up, the best result in program history, at the 2013 ACC women’s golf championship Sunday at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
The women’s golf program had previously finished third in 2002 and 2005.
Junior Brittany Marchand shot an even-par 71 second round Saturday to move the team into second place, after finishing the open round in third place.
State persevered Sunday to solidify its spot as runner-up in the tournament.
The team shot a combined 54-over par, 906 points, behind tournament champion No. 3 nationally ranked Duke. The Blue Devils shot 20-over par, 882 points, over the weekend.
N.C. State and Duke were the only two squads who had five players finish in the top-25 in the tournament.
State improved four spots from last year’s ACC tournament finish. The 2011-2012 squad finished 6th with 909 total points.
No.13 Virginia, No. 50 Florida State, No. 8 North Carolina and Miami, tied, respectfully rounded out the top-five finishing team of the tournament.
Virginia’s Brittany Altomare earned the individual title after shooting a 4-over 217 on the tournament.
Marchand took charge for the Pack, tying for sixth place at 10-over par, 223, for the tournament followed by sophomore Augusta James tied for 12th with a 15-over par, 228.
Junior Ana Mendez finished in 16th at 16-over par, 229. Freshman Rachael Taylor finished tied for 22nd at 20-over, 233, and sophomore Vivian Tsui finished tied for 25th at 21-over, 234.
The Pack will be back in action during the NCAA regionals, May 9-11, at a site yet to be determined. State finished 7th out of 24 teams in last season’s NCAA Central Regional and tied for 13th of 24 in the NCAA Championship.
