Syracuse – The Orange continues its tear through the ACC with another close win Tuesday against ACC foe Pittsburgh. Syracuse rallied behind star freshman point guard Tyler Ennis to hold off a talented Panthers squad and remain undefeated. The Orange travels to BankUnited Center on Saturday to take on the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes and head coach Jim Larrañaga, the 2012-13 AP Coach of the Year.
Pittsburgh – The Panthers suffered their first ACC loss at Syracuse, dropping them to 4-1 in ACC play. Pittsburgh looks to rebound in its next home game against the Clemson Tigers.
Virginia – Senior guard Joe Harris and the Cavaliers are looking to reassert themselves as one of the top teams in the nation. The Cavaliers defeated Florida State convincingly this weekend, and followed that up with a 76-61 beat down of UNC-Chapel Hill, improving the Cavs to 5-1 in conference play.
Clemson – The Tigers have performed exceptionally well in conference play, defeating the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to improve to 4-1. The Tigers will look to continue their good play as they head to Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Duke– The Blue Devils showed this weekend why they are still one of top offenses in the nation. Duke put on an offensive clinic against N.C. State on Saturday, taking the Wolfpack out of the game early to improve to 3-2 in the ACC. The Devils’ standout freshman forward Jabari Parker also returned to top form, as he dropped 23 points on the Wolfpack.
Flordia State – After defeating the Miami (FL) Hurricanes on Wednesday, a loss at Virginia during the weekend puts the Seminoles back 3-2 in conference play. The ‘Noles will hope to rebound quickly and win big at home on Tuesday against a new and talented ACC opponent, Notre Dame.
Wake Forest– A young Wake Forest team beat N.C. State, but lost to Clemson this weekend, dropping it to 2-3 in the conference. The Demon Deacons’ youth and inexperience is still evident on the hardwood.
N.C. State – So much talent but so little experience is a perfect way to describe this year’s Wolfpack squad. The Wolfpack is inconsistent, the hallmark of a young team, but a gritty win over Maryland on Monday without freshman forward T.J. Warren, the ACC’s leading scorer, will give State fans hope that the future is bright in Raleigh.
Maryland – Sophomore guard Seth Allen and the Maryland Terrapins bounced back from a two-game losing streak to defeat ACC-newcomer Notre Dame, improving to 3-2 in the ACC. Allen is healthy again, and the Terrapins look like legitimate ACC contenders.
Notre Dame-Notre Dame rebounded from a loss at Maryland to defeat the struggling Virginia Tech Hokies, improving 2-3 in the ACC. The loss of senior guard Jerian Grant, Notre Dame’s leading scorer, in December due to an academic issue essentially takes the Irish out of ACC title contention.
Miami (Fla.) – After losing to Florida State, the Hurricanes rebounded to beat Georgia Tech, improving to 2-3 in the conference. After losing a plethora of talent from last year’s squad, including former guard Shane Larkin, the Hurricanes will have to rebuild from the ground up.
North Carolina – Can anyone figure out this year’s Tar Heel squad? Head coach Roy Williams can’t. The Heels have outplayed some of the nation’s top teams, but find themselves a disappointing 1-3 in conference play. UNC won its first conference game this weekend against Boston College, but was demolished by a red-hot Virginia team in Charlottesville, Va. on Monday.
Georgia Tech – Georgia Tech prepares to take on Boston College this week. The Yellow Jackets are struggling in conference play, sending them to 1-4 after a loss to the Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes.
Virginia Tech -After the departure of Erick Green, the NCAA scoring leader last season, the Hokies have had a rough time scoring. A loss against Notre Dame has put the Hokies back at 1-4 in the ACC.
Boston College – Boston College needs someone to step up this year. Last season the Eagles had a roster full of freshmen, and this year is the time for them to step up. The Eagles are sitting at 1-4 and can’t seem to put the pieces together.
