Sing It Loud, a new indie band out of Minneapolis, Minn., will be coming to The Brewery on Friday. The band’s self-entitled EP came out on April 1 and its new album, titled Come Around comes out Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Lead singer Pat Brown sat down for an interview with Technician on Friday. He said the band chose to name its debut album Come Around to guide new listeners.

“‘Come Around’ is the heavy-hitting song of the album and we think that, with iTunes, digital sales and singles these days, if people see our album is named after the song then the first song they’ll download will be ‘Come Around.’ It will be a good introduction for new fans.”

The band began playing in February and will be starting a major tour Aug. 27.

Brown also spoke about the demands of band life.

“I guess it’s like whenever we have to do band stuff at home, it feels more like work, but when we’re out playing shows it never ever does,” he said. “When we’re touring, it’s really, really awesome.”

The first day of tour is an interesting day, he said.

“It’s like the first day of high school,” he said. “You’re meeting 20 or so guys that you’re going to be spending a lot of time with. You want to make a good impression.”

Brown’s attitude towards touring will certainly be an asset. He ran through a typical night on tour.

“Usually what happens is we play our show, we get a hotel around 2 or 3 in the morning, then we wake up around 11 and we’ll roll [to the next city]. Five to six days a week, sometimes seven,” Brown said.

To deal with the stress from the road, Brown has strong foundations back home in the Twin Cities.

“When I’m at home, I spend a lot of time with my family, especially with my grandma,” he said. “I sleep in and I’ve got a pretty cool group of friends that I went to school with that I hang out with on a pretty regular basis.”

Brown also mentioned his friends from home, who are supportive and still very important parts of his life.

“They love it. They’re super stoked. A couple of them worked for us on a couple of shows on some rigging, stuff like that,” he said. “They’ve been very supportive and very cool about it.”

The bonds between band members will also help to ease the stress of the road. The group grew out of a mutual respect between Brown and guitarist Kieren Smith.

“Me and our guitar player Kieren had played in other bands that played in the Twin Cities, Minneapolis and we kind of saw eye to eye. We said that if our bands ever broke up that we form our own band and that’s exactly what happened,” Brown said.

Chris “Sick Boy” Lee played drums in Smith’s band and joined the duo. Nate Flynn (bass) and Ben Peterson (keyboard) met the band by being around the local scene in Minneapolis.

According to Brown, the writing process involves the entire band. He and Smith come up with an idea for a chorus or structure for a song and present it to the band. From there, they work together to produce the final product.

“Me and Kieren are in charge of all the lyric writing and some of the song writing. We’re definitely a 20/20/20/20/20 song writing kind of band. It’s definitely a total group effort on that,” he said.

The doors open at The Brewery at 6:30 p.m. Friday night. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The band will also have its EP on sale for $5 at the show. Sing It Loud will be the third band on, following Cash Cash and Single File.
