Members of the Homecoming Committee met Tuesday night to discuss and plan events for Homecoming, taking place the week of Oct. 29. The meeting was the third of five scheduled for the committee.
While the committee has not yet chosen a band to perform at the PackHowl on Nov. 3, members said they are optimistic that the show will be successful.
Meredith Peel, chair of the PackHowl committee, said the group switched agents, which put them a little behind.
“We just weren’t meshing well with him,” Peel said of the former agent. “We thought we could be more efficient with the other guy. It wasn’t a mean…thing at all.”
The committee switched to the agent used last year.
“I’m not worried at all,” Peel said. “I know we’ll get somebody good.” Peel said she hasn’t seen a list for possible bands yet, adding that it is mostly up to the Alumni Association and the advisor of Student Ambassadors.
While a band hasn’t been chosen, an emcee from G105 has.
“It’s easier to schedule a band at a later notice than an emcee,” Peel said.
Peel said she is confident students will be satisfied with the performance.
“Last year it just came down to the wire and we still pulled off a great show,” she said.
Connie Justice, chair of the Homecoming Committee, echoed Peel’s sentiments and said the committee is doing well.
“It’s a really long arduous process,” Justice said. “We’re getting a lot of new events. We’re really trying to create an individual identity.”
Four student groups, including the cheerleading and dance teams, are scheduled to perform during PackHowl before the band takes the stage.
“We have a really good mix,” Peel said. “We’re trying to touch on all the different groups on campus.”
Among the items discussed at the meeting was when and where tickets will go on sale.
Peel said she didn’t foresee the tickets being granted free of charge.
“We don’t have prices set because we don’t have a band,” she said.
In past years, the committee sold between 2,500 and 4,000 tickets. One place the committee planned to sell tickets was at Reynolds Coliseum when students will pick up parking permits for the game on Nov. 4.
“We’re hoping to have one of those windows dedicated to selling PackHowl tickets,” Peel said.
Bhavin Gondha, a junior in business management and member of the committee, said, up to this point, planning has been good.
“There’s a lot of new stuff being done,” he said. “We’re hoping for a really good band, of course. Hopefully this new guy will help us get the best deal.”
