Softball falls in semifinals
The NC State softball team fell in the semifinal of the ACC tournament last week. The Pack picked up a 5-2 win over Louisville Thursday, getting a pair of RBI singles from sophomore infielder Jessica Moore and seven innings of two-run ball from freshman pitcher Peyton Silverman, who allowed six hits and struck out three.
Despite a late rally, the Pack’s tournament came to an end in the semifinals Friday with an 8-7 loss to the archival North Carolina Tar Heels. The Heels picked up a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to take an 8-5 lead and seal the victory. The Pack cut the deficit to one in the seventh courtesy of a solo shot to left by freshman infielder Haylee Kobziak and an RBI double by sophomore Brittany Nimmo to left, but could not find the tying run and bowed out of the tournament after two games.

Charleston named ACC outdoor meet MVP
Wolfpack freshman Cravont Charleston was named the MVP of the 2017 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Georgia Tech over the weekend. Charleston helped lead State to a fourth-place finish at the meet with victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter, as well as running the first leg of the Pack’s winning 4×100-meter relay team.
Charleston ran his way to victory in the 100m with a time of 10.07 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history. His mark of 20.76s in the 200m was his new personal best. Charleston became just the fifth sprinter in NC State history to win the ACC title in both the 100m and 200m, and was the first since 1996 to accomplish the feat. He is also the first Wolfpack freshman to ever win both events.
Charleston wasn’t the only member of the Pack to have success at the meet, as redshirt seniors Sam Parsons and Megan Moye, sophomore Nyheim Hines, freshman Dylan Peebles and redshirt sophomore Rachel Koon all earned first-team All-ACC honors in their respective events.

Men’s basketball lands Hunt
Graduate guard Sam Hunt will transfer from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and join the NC State men’s basketball team next season, with head coach Kevin Keatts adding him last weekend as he continues to build next year’s team. Hunt is eligible to play for the Pack immediately and has one year of college eligibility remaining. He led the Aggies in scoring each of the past two seasons, with 12.7 points per game this past year and 15.4 the season before.
Hunt adds to the Pack’s guard rotation of Markell Johnson, Torin Dorn, Lavar Batts and Al Freeman, with the possibility of Terry Henderson being granted a sixth year of eligibility as well.
