Valvano named ACC legend
Former NC State men’s basketball head coach Jim Valvano will be inducted into this year’s class of ACC Basketball Legends. Valvano was made famous by the Wolfpack’s second national championship in 1983 that coined the famous phrase “Survive and Advance.” Valvano finished his coaching career at NC State with an overall record of 209-114. The legendary coach was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1992 and tragically lost his fight with the disease in 1993. He left behind a legacy of fighting to the end, highlighted by his speech at the 1993 ESPYs shortly before his death. His organization, the Jimmy V Foundation, has raised over $170 million to fight cancer around the country.

Women’s track and field ranked in two polls
The Wolfpack women’s track and field team is currently No. 15 in the USTFCCCA National Poll and No. 16 in FloTrack’s national indoor rankings. Last year, the women finished 17th at the NCAA championships, but NC State is set to beat that mark this year. The Pack has four athletes ranked nationally, even though several members have yet to race this season. All of the qualifications came in the 5,000m event from senior Erika Kemp, redshirt sophomore Rachel Koon, sophomore Ryen Frazier and redshirt junior Alyssa Rudawsky. The four distance specialists are all ranked in the top-15 of the NCAA in the 5,000m.
