Submissions

Technician endeavors to be a meeting place for campus opinions. We welcome letters to the editor and guest columns and encourage members of the wider NC State community to make submissions. Potential authors should consider the following information about submissions.

What is a Letter to the Editor?

A letter to the editor must pertain to Technician’s coverage or an issue directly related to the university’s community. It should be in response to content recently published by the paper or to an action taken by the University or local officials. Submissions for letters to the editor should be no more than 600 words.

What is a Guest Column?

Guest columns can cover a wide array of subjects and are usually more extensive than letters to the editor while maintaining relevance to campus interests. Guest columnists typically have special expertise or lived experience with the topics they write about. Guest columns should be no more than 800 words.

Guidelines

Though Technician strives to platform as many community voices as possible, a submission does not guarantee publication. Submissions likely to be accepted will align with our Guest Submission Template. The opinion editor and editor-in-chief will have final say on if submissions are in line with the paper’s guidelines.

Technician reserves the right to edit letters and guest columns for accuracy, clarity, grammar, structure, AP and Technician style. The opinion page editor maintains the right to withhold submissions at their discretion. Technician will not publish content that is anonymous, vulgar or promotes falsehoods.

The author needs to provide their name, contact information and relation to the community and submit a high-quality image to run alongside the piece. Please cite all sources; Technician will fact-check every submission.
