Though I am pretty sure we are all excited that the end of the semester is rapidly approaching, come the last few weeks of the semester, it seems our professors try to cram every last test or paper on us before the dead week.
It simply is not fair to have so much to do in such little time. Having to take four tests in the same week, or to write an entire book start and finish before Thanksgiving break, makes little sense.
I understand that the professors want to cover and test a certain amount of material before the semester is over, but why cram it all in the last few weeks of the semester? This practice of cramming would be unwelcome at any point in the semester, but is especially unwelcome now. We are completely burnt out and do not have the attention span or the care to pay attention to what the professor is saying anymore. This is the time when we should just take a break and review all that we have learned over the course the past few months.
It would make more sense if our professors gave us more work during the first few months instead of waiting until the week before Thanksgiving. All we can focus on now, for the most part, is getting home and finally having a break.
Instead of just taking it easy on us the week before Thanksgiving, they give us so much work to do. We could be using this time to study for finals, only a few weeks away. Instead, we’ll have to postpone our studies for the next round of tests.
Our finals are important to us; they hold the most percentage of our final grade. It’s the time for those students who have been going up and down with their grades to solidify themselves. Finals are their last saving grace to pull that A or B in that class they so badly need.
Not all college students necessarily procrastinate and wait until the last minute. Instead, we have so much thrown at us at once that something is always forced to take the back seat in order for us to complete all our work.
Yes, the school does permit us to have a dead week and reading days that help us better prepare for our finals, but by that time we are so tired of all the tests we took only a week ago and all the papers we had to complete. When our reading days come, all we want to do is sleep instead of study for another major test.
As a third semester student here, I thought I would be used to the process of my professors giving me test after test, and paper after paper as the semesters come to an end, but it is so hard to get used to something that simply drains the life out of you. During this time, it seems as though the outside world no longer exists; our social lives are dead and our books and notes become our new best friends.
No matter how much we are on top of our school work, we all will be working up to the very last minute, trying to get any last information implanted into our heads. The library will become full of students who will get little amounts of sleep because they were obligated to finish up a last-minute project or paper for their professor.
