NC State gymnastics is off to a strong start in ACC competition after posting a 195.875-195.525 win at Pitt.
The Wolfpack (2-2, 2-1 ACC) found itself on the road for the third time in four meets. Dropping its first two matchups on the road, the Pack finally earned a victory away from Reynolds Coliseum in a tightly contested win over the Panthers (1-6, 0-3 ACC). The win marks NC State’s fourth-straight win in the series over Pitt, which NC State consistently performs well in.
The Wolfpack picked up its best showing of the day in the floor event. Scoring 49.150 points with multiple players posting career best showings, NC State delivered on the floor. Leading the unit, junior Elle Hadrick earned a 9.900 score — tying her career high. Meanwhile, freshman Autumn Rardin turned in her best collegiate performance, scoring 9.875 points.
The Wolfpack also shined in the beam event with a 49.000 score — a season high. Freshman Adasyn Tackett and sophomore Syniya Thomas each scored 9.825 points to pace the red-and-white in the event. Just behind the duo, sophomore Caroline Volk earned a strong 9.800 score.
NC State also performed well in the bars, scoring a season best 48.975 points. Sophomore Ava Myers opened the rotation by tying her career-best showing with a 9.850 score. Hadrick built off of Myers’ outstanding showing with a 9.875 score. Volk also performed well with a strong 9.800 showing.
The Wolfpack’s weakest event turned out to be the vault, where the red-and-white posted a 48.750 score. While the score was NC State’s lowest, there were still positives for the Pack. In her best showing of the year, Thomas recorded a 9.875 score and junior Lauren Wright kicked off the event with a respectable 9.750 score.
While NC State trailed early in the match, with Pitt excelling in the bars and vault events, the Pack showed great resiliency to complete a comeback through the final two events. The Wolfpack’s perseverance will be valuable as it enters a key stretch in the season, with matches against Carolina ahead plus several quad meets.
Next up, the Wolfpack will host North Carolina on Sunday Feb. 8 in Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack and the Heels will face off at 4 p.m. with television coverage available on ACC Network. NC State is currently riding a five-game win streak of Carolina.
