Opening its eight-day road trip with a resounding midweek win over Wake Forest, No. 14 NC State women’s tennis didn’t drop a single set versus the Demon Deacons.
Bouncing back after a brutal loss to No. 29 Miami as its comeback fell short in the Sunday match, the Pack (11-5) returned to dominant form as it secured a 4-0 win over Wake Forest (8-8), not dropping a single set for the second time this week, having swept Florida State on Friday.
The only court that was even close was doubles Court 3, where sophomore Mia Slama and freshman Lavinia Tanasie were in a tie-break with Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet before the Pack clinched the doubles point, and the match went unfinished.
On Court 1, the No. 2 pairing of junior Gabriella Broadfoot and freshman Victoria Osuigwe picked up a 6-1 victory over Wake’s Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum, as the pairing is red hot and hasn’t lost in a month. The Pack’s pairing on Court 2, No. 57 junior Jasmine Conway and senior Anna Zyryanova, fared similarly, winning 6-3. And with the result, NC State has won seven-straight doubles points.
From there, the Pack continued to dominate with wins on singles Courts 2, 3 and 4 on the way to clinching a 4-0 win.
No. 66 Zyryanova chowed down, only dropping one set in a 6-1, 6-0 victory on Court 4. Shortly thereafter, No. 29 Tanasie took down Tannenbaum 6-2, 6-1, also making quick work of her opponent. To clinch the match, No. 35 Broadfoot, also winning in straight sets, took down Krystal Blanch 6-3, 6-2.
In the matches that did not finish, NC State was up big as No. 41 Slama held a set and break lead over Nevena Carton, leading 4-1 in the second set on Court 1. Osuigwe won the first set in a tiebreak 7-5 on Court 5, while Conway was leading 6-2, 4-3 and on the way to another victory on Court 6.
Continuing its slate of road matches, NC State heads to Dallas, Texas, to take on SMU Sunday, March 15, at 1 p.m.
