NC State track and field turned in a strong showing at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday, facing multiple regional opponents in its second indoor season outing.

The Pack’s strongest performances came from its jumping groups, but it turned in notable finishes throughout the weekend, including a program-best sprint and four first-place finishes.

In the men’s 300-meter dash, junior Christian Parker led the field with a school-record time of 33.54 seconds. Junior Elijah Dawes finished sixth in 33.95, and freshman Palmer Smith ran 35.74 in his collegiate debut.

Junior Ryan John posted a personal-best 7.10 meters to place fourth in the men’s long jump. Freshman Jack Owen finished sixth at 6.92 meters, and sophomore Ryan Farness took eighth with a personal-best 6.89. John also placed fourth in the triple jump at 15.13 meters, while sophomore Asun Pender placed eighth at 14.20.

NC State placed three athletes in the top seven of the men’s high jump. Sophomore Christian Hackett and freshman Chase Farlow each cleared 2.01 meters to finish fifth and sixth, respectively, and junior Judd Armstrong cleared 1.96 meters for seventh.

On the women’s side, sophomore Mariama Hunt won the long jump with 6.07 meters, senior Elyssia Fisher placed third at 5.86, and sophomore Nia Poole finished sixth with 5.71. All three recorded personal bests. Poole also recorded a personal-best 12.22 meters in the triple jump to finish third, while Hunt placed eighth at 11.54.

The Wolfpack women swept the podium in the high jump, with junior McKenna Moritz and sophomore Audrey Jenkins sharing the event title after clearing 1.66 meters. Sophomore Kirstin Smalls also cleared 1.66 to finish third. Both Moritz and Smalls recorded personal bests.

NC State capped the meet with a third-place finish in the men’s 4×400 meters, running 3:14.83, while the women took fifth with a time of 3:51.12.

The Pack returns to Blacksburg Jan. 23-24 for the Hokie Invitational.
