The last time NC State women’s basketball scored 100 points in a road game, Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” had just fallen out of the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Against Boston College (4-19, 0-10 ACC), the Wolfpack (15-6, 8-2 ACC) made its 106-84 win look easy, absorbing a season-high 16 threes from the Eagles and a fierce challenge on the boards, with NC State claiming 37 boards compared to Boston College’s 30. Junior guard Zoe Brooks stayed hot with 27 points after scoring a career-high 37 in her last game, while sophomore forward Tyldra Trygger scored 25 to mark her own career high.
The Wolfpack has a monstrous four-headed scoring machine that is proving difficult for conference opponents to handle. Junior forward Khamil Pierre and sophomore guard Zam Jones dropped 19 and 18 points, respectively, adding to Brooks and Trygger’s counts. All four players are averaging double figures in scoring on the season.
Boston College started with an explosion of offense and looked like it could keep up with NC State, but that illusion fizzled when its hot shooting cooled off. The Wolfpack didn’t rely on hot shooting, scoring 56 points in the paint and shooting 22-for-23 at the free-throw line.
The game slowed down in the third quarter before an 8-0 Eagles run woke up the Wolfpack. NC State rattled off a 21-4 run in return. “Wolf!”, “Pack!” chants echoed through Conte Forum as the road team put the game away.
NC State struggled in the defensive rebounding game, allowing 13 offensive rebounds to Boston College. Still, the league’s leading rebounder in Pierre grabbed four offensive rebounds of her own and finished with 12 total rebounds.
Boston College was hosting its Play4Kay game, so both teams wore pink uniforms for breast cancer awareness in partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
NC State will don pink again on Monday, Feb. 2, in its own Play4Kay game, as rival North Carolina visits Reynolds Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
