NC State track and field had another commanding weekend of competition, this time at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, where it had 11 top-three finishes, three event wins and six new additions to the program’s all-time top-10 lists.
In the men’s 60m hurdles, junior Xavier Branker ran a 7.97 to take first place in prelims — No. 6 all-time in Wolfpack history — and ran a 7.99 in the final, good for second place. Sophomore James Coleman ran an 8.07 in prelims and further improved his time with an 8.03 in the final, taking third place.
It was domination in the men’s seeded 200m as junior Christian Parker ran a 20.93 to take first place, and later ran a 47.06 in the men’s seeded 400m to take first place again, marking the third-fastest time in program history. Branker followed close behind with a 48.26 finish, taking third place.
The Pack made its mark in the women’s 600m. Freshman Alexis Mayhew took second place with a 1:34.32, junior Kyra Durham took third place with a 1:34.61, sophomore Molly Canon took fourth place with a 1:34.84 and junior Madison Moraja took seventh with a 1:38.52. The foursome added their names to the history books, taking the No. 2, No. 3, No. 6 and No. 9 spots in the Wolfpack record books, respectively.
In the women’s high jump, junior McKenna Moritz and sophomore Audrey Jenkins tied for second place, each eclipsing a 1.65m jump. Just behind them were sophomore Kirstin Smalls and junior Jenna Barnes, who tied for eight place with a 1.60m jump.
NC State took over the men’s high jump, taking three of the top four spots. Senior Kyzaiah Stone took first place with a 2.05m jump, junior Judd Armstrong took second place with a 2.00m jump and freshman Chase Farlow took fourth place.
Next weekend gets hectic for the Wolfpack as it sends athletes to four different meets across four different states. NC State will compete in the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, the Eagle Elite DMR in Boston, Massachusetts, the Darrius Dixon Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia and the ASICS Sound Invite in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Feb. 13-14.
