Herb, Herb, Herb.
How did it come to this?
How did our relationship come to this?
We remember the good times: the ACC Coach of the Year, high rankings at the beginning of recent seasons and watching your recruits go off to careers in the NBA.
Now it’s like we don’t even know you anymore. We have watched as you have taken our team and lost repeatedly to substandard teams and our rivals.
We boasted to our friends at other schools that we would be the ACC champions this year. How could we lose?
We had a team with talent to rival any other, and our sworn enemies the Tar Heels lost their best starting players; but guess what…we lost to them twice!
Herb, you’ve had the campus’ support in the past, but we are frankly a little tired of having mediocre seasons.
You have not taken us any farther than the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament, even when we had some of the best teams in our history and we were favored to go farther.
Tonight is your night to prove yourself. You have the talent on the team, and they are hungry to cut down the net after winning.
An interesting question you should consider, Herb, is how many students have picked our team to lose in the first round?
It’s probably a lot more than you think, and it’s not because there is an overwhelming amount of California fans on campus.
It’s because we have become so alienated by a team that we have put so much hope in, and we have become pessimistic.
We don’t consider ourselves “fair-weather fans” but rather realistic fans who are sad that we can’t count on our team.
Also, if this reaction by the student body isn’t enough for Herb, he should consider the fact that rumors have been thrown around and the prospects of the tournament aren’t being considered as hopeful but rather as “The Herb Sendek situation.”
The alumni and administration are getting just as tired as we are. Herb should start working on his “Win one for the Gipper” speech as soon as possible because he might not be making anymore speeches at N.C. State if he loses tonight.
