Campus Police said there is still no known cause of death for Daniel Mann Whitley, a freshman in First Year College who was found dead in his dorm room Sunday afternoon.
Sgt. Jon Barnwell of Campus Police said the department is waiting for the medical examiner’s autopsy.
“Basically what we’re doing is we’re investigating just to piece together the last couple of days just to make sure there’s nothing to miss,” he said. “We’re covering all our bases to … make sure what the medical examiner comes up with is supported by our investigation.”
Ryan Hatley, a freshman in mathematics education who attended elementary school with Whitley, said a visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow in Stanley County. Whitley’s funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday at Firsty Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, N.C.
Whitley was found deceased Sunday afternoon in Tucker Residence Hall after his roommate, Scott Hester, a freshman in First Year College, returned to the room after staying out Saturday night, Barnwell said.
When Hester found his roommate unresponsive, he called Campus Police, who determined Whitley was deceased upon arrival.
Barnwell said Whitley was seen by students in Tucker Hall Saturday night.
