Valentine’s Day wasn’t the only thing keeping NC State track and field busy as it was split across three states at three different events in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The Wolfpack dominated the field with podium placements and record finishes galore.
The ASICS Sounds Invite in nearby Winston-Salem was headlined by star freshman Sadie Engelhardt’s second-place finish in the women’s mile ASICS division. Her time of 4:23.84 set a new program record and stands as the fifth-fastest time in NCAA history.
Senior Olivia Haas etched a fourth-place 4:50.09 performance in the women’s mile seeded, followed closely by sophomore Justine Preisano with a sixth-place finish of 4:53.63. In the men’s mile seeded, junior Elliott McArthur broke the 4-minute mark and took fourth place with a time of 3:59.60 — No. 3 all-time in NC State history.
NC State packed a lethal 1-2 punch in the men’s 3000m as freshmen Michael Haskin and James Callahan took first and second place respectively, separated by just 0.55 seconds. In the men’s 3000m seeded, graduate student Ian Harrison took home third place with a time of 7:58.99.
The Wolfpack stamped its domination at the meet in the women’s 5000m, where graduate Brooke Rauber, sophomore Bethany Michalak and senior Briley Bickerstaff took first, third and fifth place, respectively. Rauber and Michalak’s times cracked the top-10 fastest times in program history.
At the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, sophomore Audrey Jenkins took third place in the women’s high jump with a 1.71m leap, and junior Jenna Barnes followed suit with a seventh-place 1.61m jump.
At the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, junior Tony Taylor II marked an 18.11m chuck, good for third place.
Next up, NC State closes out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the VT Challenge in Blacksburg, Virginia, and the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.
