To end the indoor track & field season, NC State took a trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the NCAA championships.
The Wolfpack participated in three events and finished top 10 in all of them. Freshman phenom Sadie Engelhardt starred in the mile, junior Angelina Napoleon starred in the 3000m and the distance medley relay team set the third-fastest time in program history.
Engelhardt, racing her main event, qualified on Friday to the mile finals. Her time of 4:38.62 is a little behind the all-time ACC record of 4:23.84 that she set in February. In the final, she was the first freshman across the line, placing third with a 4:40.21.
In the distance medley relay, sophomores Bethany Michalak and Shauné Ingraham opened the running. Michalak’s 3:22.21 split in the 1200m got the Pack off to a strong start that Ingraham kept up with a 54.46 time in the 400m.
Junior Angelina Napoleon was next, running 2:04.50 in the 800m before senior Hannah Gapes finished the job with a 4:29.87 time in the 1600m. The team combined for a fifth-place finish.
Englehardt, Michalak, Ingraham, Napoleon and Gapes earned First-Team All-American honors for their performances.
Napoleon also raced in the 3000m, where her 8:55.45 run brought her 10th-place and Second-Team All-American honors.
NC State ended the event with 10 points in 23rd place.
Next up, the Wolfpack will kick off the outdoor season in the 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday, March 20.
