Doneka Scott, vice chancellor and dean of Academic and Student Affairs, is leaving NC State effective June 1, 2026. The University announced Scott’s departure last week, stating that her motivation for leaving was personal reasons.
Scott joined the University in 2021 as vice chancellor and dean of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. Scott dedicated her time at the University to ensuring the success of students, incorporating support for academic and social integration and ensuring that students were equipped with the necessary tools required for success.
In the report announcing Scott’s departure, the University stated Scott used her position to embody these ideals and grow the University.
“Under Scott’s leadership, [the Division of Academic and Student Affairs] delivered measurable gains in student success and institutional capacity. Four-year graduation rates rose from 65.4% to 71.2%, with even larger increases for out-of-state and urban students, while student-athlete graduation success climbed to 94%. Philanthropic support surged to $58.3M over five years, more than tripling the prior period,” the report said.
In the same report, Warwick Arden, executive vice chancellor and provost, said the University wishes Scott the best and thanked her for her work.
“We thank Doneka for her dedicated service and significant contributions to the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and the broader NC State community,” Arden said. “We wish her all the best in her future pursuits.”
Prior to her time at NC State, Scott worked as vice provost for undergraduate education and student success at the University of Oregon and also served as special assistant to the vice provost at the University of Minnesota.
Scott went to University of Michigan, receiving her Doctor of pharmacy and her Master of Arts in higher and postsecondary education. Scott was the first in her family to attend college, raised in a working-class household.
There is no current information regarding who will replace Scott as the next vice chancellor.
