The NC State Wolfpack met in Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. While both the men and women teams competed, the Pack women’s track and field stuffed the stat sheets, earning two First-Team and two Second-Team All-American honors.
In the 3000m steeplechase, it was junior Angelina Napoleon who made headlines for the Wolfpack. The Albany native posted her season-best performance, with a time of 9:35:56 and a fourth-place finish. The outstanding performance was enough for Napoleon to be named to the First-Team All-American.
Napoleon wasn’t alone in the steeplechase. Not far behind her was junior Kate Putman, who was competing in only her fifth ever steeplechase event in the Championships. In such a crucial moment, it can be common to feel pressure or nerves. If she had any of these feelings, they didn’t stop her from finishing sixth overall with a time of 9:45.96 and earning First-Team All-American honors.
The freshman sensation Sadie Engelhardt capped off her standout season. During the indoor season, she was a familiar name on result sheets, and was named the 2025-2026 ACC Indoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year, and simultaneously an All-American.
The momentum from her indoor season carried onto the outdoor track, and she delivered. She was named to the All-ACC Outdoor team, and she finished 11th place in the 1500m Final with a time of 4:16.96, earning her recognition as a Second-Team All-American.
The women’s 5000m concluded the event for the Wolfpack, and senior Hannah Gapes could not ask for a more perfect way to end her career as a member of the Pack. She delivered a personal best performance, placing 11th overall with a time of 15:25.93 and earning Second-Team All-American honors; her time ranked No. 4 all-time at NC State.
Sophomore Bethany Michalak earned an All-American Honorable Mention, as she placed 18th in the women’s 1500m.
The men’s team didn’t have the same success as the women’s, but junior Ryan John made a name for himself, finishing 22nd in the triple jump.
